Story

LARGEST TEDDY BEAR PICNIC FUNDRAISER ~ WORLD DIABETES DAY - 14th November

Hi Danii Friends,

November 14th marks World Diabetes Day and there’s no better way to celebrate it than to organise the Largest Teddy Bear Picnic, and help raise much needed funds for DANII!

The DANII Foundation is committed to providing members support across a large number of initiatives involving Education, Advocacy, Research & development, subsidisation & implementation of life-saving Technology for people living with Type ONE diabetes and at this time we really do need your support.

The idea of A Teddy Bear Picnic was masterminded by none other; Danii herself - when she sought to raise funds for the likes of Diabetes Australia and JDRF.  In legacy to her and her Foundation, and to assist our members with ongoing support in Education in Schools and Financial assistance in the Ty1D technological field, we aim to not only reinvent it but to take Danii's Teddy Bears Picnic to a National level for the first time ever!

HOW IT WORKS

Establish a date in November for your Picnic that works for you

You choose a park or bushland area near you that’s cosy, roomy and leafy.

Let your friends know well in advance so they can pencil your event in.

Invite your family & friends (friends of friends); make a Top Day for the kids.

Make a reservation at the park/picnic area if it’s necessary.

HOW TO GET WORD OUT ABOUT YOUR TEDDY BEAR PICNIC

Phone family (aunts/uncles, grandparents etc) and friends; call anyone you think will support you.

Create a facebook EVENT and encourage FRIENDS to come along.

You could request Corporate Sponsorship from Local Business for your Event

Speak with local newspapers and TV and tell them about your event – invite them along for a story!

Speak to people you know who are in a similar position as you (T1D) through various other foundations.

HOW TO FUNDRAISE

Be sure that you are covered for costs (if any) associated with reserving a venue

Charge a nominal attendance fee – cover singles & families appropriately.

Have a Gold Coin Donation bucket during your event.

Hold a one or more raffles – locally supported by businesses near you*

HOW TO ORGANISE RAFFLE PRIZES*

You’d frequent a supermarket, butcher and bakery?  …Perhaps a pharmacy, hairdresser and the likes? Speak with the firms you invest your hard earned dollars in; you’ll find most will be honourable in providing you with something you can include in a prize or hamper.

Hampers are the way to go, one or two raffles at most: 3 if you’re inundated with prize donations.

Sell tickets at a reasonable cost, making sure value is good and purchasers can afford to buy more than one ticket, in that raffle – and the next.

CATERING

Self-catering is the best way to go, everyone packs a picnic basket and provides food and drink for their own.  Some park venues offer BBQ facilities, these venues are very popular and there’s nothing like a good steak ‘n snag on the barby – and the good atmosphere that goes with it.

If BBQs are available (or if you’re in a position to take your own), you could consider a Sausage Sizzle event; say, $15 per person provided you get the right financial support from you meat dealer.

WHERE DOES FUNDRAISING GO AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

Primarily, funds go to DANII – and then straight back to you, through a fair distribution  The Danii Foundation doesn’t impose levies on fundraised contributions, funds raised go straight back to members who are in need of financial assistance, people like you.

HOW DO YOU FORWARD FUNDS RECEIVED FROM YOUR TEDDY BEAR PICNIC?

You simply account for the funds raised and forward the Foundation with an online donation.

Be sure to identify yourself; your area so we know who you are!

This fundraising initiative will be fun and a positive move for both you and the DANII Foundation.

Fundraisers throughout the year like these have enabled members to attend events like the Jelly Bean Ball & Jelly Bean Cruise & help to fund life-saving CGM Trials and In-School Pump it UP Education Challenge.  But it’s all about becoming active and getting involved.

There are a number of local fundraising initiatives you can undertake to help us help you.  You need only ask – we’ll surely help deliver – a lifestyle both you and your family will fondly enjoy.

Get aboard; let’s make this Teddy Bear Picnic the biggest Australia’s ever seen.  For our T1Ds!

Our mission is to Educate and advocate "what is type ONE diabetes" and provide people living with T1D a better quality of life by making affordable, life-saving alert technology a reality..
The ultimate goal of preventing un-necessary deaths as a result of Dead in Bed Syndrome or Ketoeacidosis.
