Story

EXCITING NEWS!!!

THANKS TO ALL OF THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONATED,

WE HAVE SURPASSED THE ORIGINAL FUNDRAISING TARGET OF $1200 IN ONE WEEK!

THIS MEANS THAT COLLECTIVELY WE HAVE PAID FOR 1000 PEOPLE TO ATTEND THE MEDICAL CLINIC.

WITH FOUR WEEKS UNTIL I LEAVE,

LET'S SEE IF WE CAN RAISE ENOUGH MONEY TO PAY FOR 2000 MEDICAL CONSULTATIONS -

THE REVISED TARGET IS $2400.00

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD

AND HELP THE FAMILIES IN MONDUL 3, SIEM REAP.

I will be spending the month of June volunteering at New Hope Cambodia, a grass roots non-government organisation in Mondul 3, a village near Siem Reap.

Mondul 3 is located in one of the of the poorest slum areas in Siem Reap province, Cambodia. Once a military base, the village is now home to some 300 families made up of army personnel, karaoke/sex workers and displaced men, women and children. The people of Mondul 3 have no formal education, English language or vocational skills. Living conditions are appalling, work opportunities limited and food scarce.

I'll be assisting in the New Hope Helen Bonner Health Centre which treats up to 100 patients a day.  The medical team performs approximately 1,800 consultations a month. All medicinal costs, estimated at US $1.20 per patient, are covered by New Hope Cambodia.

Donations $2 and over are tax deductable.  Just think, if you donated $2 you would be paying for the medical care of a person - perhaps someone a little like yourself but who isn't as fortunate to have easy access to the high standard of health care that we do in Australia.

This cause is really important to me and I would be greatly appreciative if you could spare some change to help support the good people at New Hope Cambodia to provide the life-changing services that they do.

My goal is to raise enough money to provide 1000 consultations to the villagers of Mondul 3 - that is $1200.  Please help me help 1000 people!

I am also collecting supplies for the health centre to take with me.  If you can provide any of the items on the list, let me know (nerida_firth@hotmail.com) and I will organise to collect them off you.

I will keep you all posted on the work that I assist with in June, and I shall share my stories and photos with you.

Thanks for visiting this page, and even bigger thanks if you can donate!
