Bubbles for Babies Ball 2012
"One night to save a life."
The Bubbles for Babies Ball is a charity event organised by the nurses of
Newborn Care at The Royal Hospital for Women.
This year's face of Bubbles for Babies Ball 2012 is the wonderful Angus Higginbotham, Angus is very popular with the nurses and everyday makes his Mum and Dad very proud. He is a surviving twin, sadly his brother Joshua died in-untero at 19 weeks, Angus went to 26 weeks and on November 2nd 2011 he was born weighing 920 grams. Angus has had some tough days on Newborn Care, fighting for his life requiring complex ventilation and drugs to help keep his little body alive. He now weighs 3.65kg and has spent his first 120 days of his life at The Royal Hospital for Women, he is going from strength to strength but is still in the intensive care section of the unit. With prematurity comes alot of complications, for Angus this means Chronic Lung Disease and an oxygen dependence. At the moment he is doing well and his Mum and Dad are delighted to have him as this years face of Bubbles for Babies following in the footsteps of Claire Hokin (2010) and Zeke Mau (2011).
To fund this wonderful evening of celebration and help make our target of $45,000 the Bubbles for Babies Running Team will attempt a number of different races throughout 2012, the team consists of nurses, doctors, parents and friends of Newborn Care. Shona Stephenson and Jane Montgomery will run the 100k North Face on May 19th-20th. Super Nurse Hannah Meyles will run the Canberra Marathon on April 14th. Most other runners will do the Sydney 1/2 Marathon (May 20th) or The City to Surf (Aug 12th).
The Newborn Care Centre can care for 44 premature babies or sick newborns at any one time. The unit is one of the largest in Australia and admits approx 800 babies a year.
The 3rd Annual Bubbles for Babies Ball will take place at The Sheraton on the Park, August 31st 2012. It is 'one night to save a life'. We will celebrate the work we do and raise money for some much needed life saving equipment.
Please help and sponsor our fantastic dedicated running team and this worthy cause.
