Shaking the Dreads Off!
Shaking the Dreads Off!
Story
Hi guys!
I've finally decided to get rid of the dreads and raise some money for the Shake It Up Foundation who is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 to promote and focus on Parkinson’s Disease research here in Australia. They are a community funded charity, leaning on their partners and supporters to help them reach their goals of delivering better treatments, prevention strategies and ultimately finding a cure in the very near future.
Parkinson's Disease is a degenerative disease that attacks the central nervous system with common symptoms being shaking, rigidity and slowness of movement.
I have chosen to support research into Parkinson's Disease as my Dad suffers from this debilitating condition along with 80,000 other Australians. My target fundraising goal is to raise at least $500 by the 19th May 2012. I will be cutting my dreadlocks off on the weekend of the 19th of May, but if you help me reach my target goal I will be letting my Dad cut my dreads off himself!. If you can imagine someone with Parkinson's Disease with a pair of scissors in their hand you will understand how scary a prospect this might be!
For more information on Parkinson's Disease, please go to: http://www.shakeitup.org.au/about-parkinsons/ or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkinson's_disease
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my fundraising page, if you would like to donate to this cause or just want to see me lose my dreads once and for all, please follow the link on this page to donate as much or as little as you like!
Cheers!
Jordan

About Shake It Up
Shake It Up Australia Foundation together with our partner at The Michael J. Fox Foundation are the largest non-government funder of Parkinson's research across multiple institutes in Australia. Founded in 2011 we have funded over $11.5M in research targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately the cure.
The Foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44.
Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
The approach MJFF takes to assessing, funding and project managing the world’s best research all over the globe eliminates redundancy, ensures efficiency and unites the global community in the quest to find a cure.
Clyde realised that funding Parkinson’s research was the best thing that he could do to help himself, his family and the 100,000 other Australians living with the disease. With that clear in his mind, Clyde founded Shake It Up Australia Foundation (SIUAF) to give other Australians the opportunity to join his quest.
