Story
The dark, dentists, monsters under the bed - all common fears for young children. Not me - I was scared of getting my hair cut. I swore that I could feel the blades slicing through each strand and would cry and scream through the process.
Though I overcame my fear of this basic grooming procedure, the idea of getting rid of all my hair still gets me a bit tense - which is why it took me so long to get this page set up.
This February I'll be shaving my head to raise funds for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, an estimable organisation that has been fighting for the human rights of asylum seekers for over 13 years. ASRC provides invaluable services including healthcare, legal assistance, food and employment assistance to practically support one of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged groups in Australia. ASRC also campaign and lobby on behalf of asylum seekers and all Australians who want to change the unjust policies that Australia has adopted.
I would love your support both financially (as you're able) and emotionally as I flinch and cringe under the shaver! All donations big or small will make a difference in the lives of some of Australia's most vulnerable people. Click on "Donate Now" (right) and do something amazing!
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
