Never.Another.You

Story

Why am I doing this?
Turning 40 is something I wasn't sure I would achieve.  Being that this is now upon me, I have decided that here lies an opportunity to do something for the greater good. I will be attempting to raise funds and awareness throughout this, my 40th year.

During my 20s I struggled with an eating disorder that spiralled out of control in my early 30s.  The odds of recovery were stacked against me.  Thankfully, I had the support of my fiance, great friends and a fantastic medical team.  I did recover in 2009 only to then lose my fiance to suicide.  My world completely collapsed.  The statistics said that with my history and the impact of this trauma, my chance of making it through this were possible but slim.  Again with amazing supports, I survived the most hideous of traumas. In 2010 I started an online support group where survivors can share their experiences called Never.Another.You.  There were days I could not see one minute of life ahead of me.  I am happy to say that those moments are very much in the past.  So, it makes sense that mental health awareness & support is something very close to my heart.

Who is Lifeline?

Lifeline is a national charity that provides 24 hour a day crisis support & suicide prevention service for all Australians.  The service is available by phone, live chat online and fact to face.  On average Lifeline accepts about 1,800 calls per day.

Why is this service so important?

It is estimated that 1014 people think about suicide every single day
Of that 1014 people, it is estimated that 249 of them will make a plan to end their lives
On average there are 180 attempted suicides every day (that's more than one every ten minutes in Australia alone)
Suicide is the leading cause of death of Australians aged between 15-44
In 2011, the statistics tell us that the road toll took 1386 of us, that skin cancer took 2087 of us and suicide took 2,273 of us.

*Please note: All donations are tax deductible. You will be sent a receipt to your email address :)
