High Hopes For a Parkinson's Cure

Story

It has been 1 year since I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease at the age of 40.
This October I am going to climb Mt Kilimanjaro

I will be doing this to raise awareness for Parkinson's Disease and to raise funds that will go directly to Australian research into ultimately finding a cure for Parkinson's Disease.
Since my diagnosis last year, I have received so much support from family and friends. I am in a fortunate position to be able to talk openly about the disease and recognise an opportunity to help raise awareness, specificaly in regards to ‘Young Onset Parkinsons Disease’. While advancing age remains the greatest risk factor, one in 10 sufferers are diagnosed before they reach 50. Parkinsons can also strike people under 30.
While I am currently in good shape, I am aware the physical opportunties may be limited down the way. Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro will not only be a physical challenge, it gives me an amazing opportunity to raise awareness for Parkinson's Disease on a larger scale through Shake it Up Australia Foundation and Team Fox Australia.

Please help me to raise much needed funds and donate today to the Shake It Up Foundation. Your support would directly help find a cure for this chronic disease that I and many others suffer from.

I would like to thank the following businesses who have made it possible for me to do this climb: John Hopkins Group www.johnhopkins.com.au, Ellis Foster McVeigh www.efm.com.au, Rothfield Print & Image Management www.printmanagement.com.au, Sue Bergman Interior Design suebergmaninteriordesign.com and Canyon www.canyonbrand.com.

Thank you!

Shake It Up Australia Foundation

Shake It Up Australia has a clear mission: To find the cure for Parkinson’s

There are an estimated 100,000 Australians living with Parkinson’s with another 38 diagnosed every day. 20% of those diagnosed are under 50 years old. With your help, we can change this!

Shake It Up has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to fund the world’s best research in Australia targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure.

100% OF YOUR DONATION GOES DIRECTLY TO RESEARCH.  THAT’S RIGHT 100%!  Our founding directors cover all general expenses of the Foundation ensuring every cent of your donation makes a real difference in the quest to find a cure for Parkinson’s.

About Shake It Up

Shake It Up Australia Foundation together with our partner at The Michael J. Fox Foundation are the largest non-government funder of Parkinson's research across multiple institutes in Australia.   Founded in 2011 we have funded over $11.5M in research targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately the cure.

The Foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44.

Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The approach MJFF takes to assessing, funding and project managing the world’s best research all over the globe eliminates redundancy, ensures efficiency and unites the global community in the quest to find a cure.

Clyde realised that funding Parkinson’s research was the best thing that he could do to help himself, his family and the 100,000 other Australians living with the disease. With that clear in his mind, Clyde founded Shake It Up Australia Foundation (SIUAF) to give other Australians the opportunity to join his quest.
