The Red Crossing

Story

Meet my Australian Red Cross trauma teddy. I've called him Bruno. He, and other teddies like him, was made by a wonderful and kind volunteer to very specific proportions. Most trauma teddies are are created to give to children who have experienced trauma through disasters - whether that's losing their parents, family or friends, their homes, or witnessing destruction around them in general. Images that will stay with them for a very long time, maybe forever. Others, like Bruno, are sometimes used for other important missions - like spreading the word about the vital work Red Cross does in the community.

You see, every single day in March - most of which will be spent in USA - I'll be approaching a stranger to talk to them about Red Cross' disaster relief work and explaining why I have Bruno with me. I'll be taking a photo of them with us and posting it to my blog, The Red Crossing, as well as to Facebook, Twitter and my fundraising website www.judithcantor.com. I'm hoping the media might support our challenge by letting even more people know about it. And I'm hoping you might help too.

What would be wonderful is if you could show your support by making a donation. Today. There are disasters happening around the world virtually every day even if they don't make the press. The intricate work of Red Cross is vital in these situations. Providing food and shelter and a sense of stability during times of great upheaval. And providing a nurturing environment in which to heal. For children, this is sometimes the only contact they can rely on. And trauma teddies have been known give relief and even elicit a smile.

Please be generous. And please also help to spread the word. The more people who know about Bruno and understand what he represents, the better. When we can't be there to put our arms around someone when they're hurting, Bruno can at least rest in them.

Thank you.

Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery

By donating to Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery, you provide valuable support for Red Cross Emergency Services teams, both staff and volunteers, as they prepare, respond and provide relief to communities during disasters. After an emergency, Red Cross people are still there working with individuals and communities to help recovery. Your support enables us to be active as soon as a situation has occurred and to provide desperately needed help. Whenever you see a Red Cross Emergency Service team in action, your donation has been an important contribution to that team. Visit www.redcross.org.au for more information
