Keeping the Cove Blue

Story

Infamous 'Cove', Taiji, JAPAN

"Never, never be afraid to do what's right,

especially if the well-being of a person or animal

is at stake.

Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds

we inflict on our soul

when we look the other way."

- MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

My name is Chanelle.

Most people know me as the 22 year old with a mind 5+ years older.

This earth is so full of beauty and mystery and at the same time, it is a dark and very ugly place.

The love I have for animals is unexplainable. If I could help every single animal who is suffering out there, I would. However, I simply cannot.

That is why I have chosen to focus on a subject that I am not only passionate about, but gives me the emotions to fuel my drive to make the cause a reality.

I have always been a huge animal activist, but nothing comes closer to the love I have for cetaceans.

Earlier this year I was blown away with yet another story about the horrific dolphin hunts that occur in Taiji, Japan on 60 Minutes. This particular story was following the footsteps of Australia for Dolphins and the efforts given to stop the barbaric act.

Sarah and her father, Alastair Lucas both inspired me to start making a difference.

On September 8th, I will be travelling to Nepal to participate in the Mt. Everest Base camp trek. I have dedicated it completely to help AFD raise not only money, but awareness.

I am a first time fundraiser so any little help is greatly appreciated.

UPDATES:

8/8/2012 - ONE MONTH EXACTLY BEFORE I VENTURE TO NEPAL...

Today I had the pleasure of meeting some of the wonderful people behind Australia for Dolphins. Their efforts of continuous communication and support have gone beyond expectations and I am ever so grateful. Their work has inspired me and with that, I will inspire you! Thanks once again!

Holy moly!

My first week of fundraising I raised over 1K!

So grateful for having such supportive humans in my world.

Lets not forget the reason why we are donating...

Cupcakes for a cause!

Today I went into work to sell some cute YUMMY cupcakes to further raise money and awareness for AFD.

Being a flight attendant myself, I know first hand how much we love cupcakes, especially when they're for a great cause.

They're still on sale so as soon as all the crumbs are gone, I can tally up the jar of generosities.

Thank you to my Adelaide base managers; Paul Southern and Wendy Hawker for being so supportive and allowing me to hang around and talk dolphins for a few hours.

Action for Dolphins

The aim of Action for Dolphins is to protect dolphins and small whales who are killed inhumanely, and who presently have no international legal protection.

Dolphins are legally protected in Australian waters, but in Japan, Peru, the Solomon Islands and the Faroe Islands, dolphins and other small whales (such as porpoises and pilot whales) are hunted and killed to supply aquariums and for their meat. Over a million have been killed in hunts in the past 70 years in Japan alone.

Action for Dolphins is committed to taking action against dolphin cruelty, with a focus on legal action that can bring about real change to the thousands of dolphins currently being mistreated around the world.

Your support will help fund our vital work to protect these wonderful and intelligent animals.
