Kids Walk For Life

The ‘Kids Walk For Life’ is a charity event which has been inspired by a 4 year old girl named Clara.

Clara, a Helensburgh local and pre-school friend of our daughter, has recently been diagnosed with Leukaemia. 

This news came as an incredible shock to the staff, parents and children that attend Happy Hearts Academy Early Learning Centre.

I first heard the news on the day of pre-school graduation and I couldn’t help but think that this day was to celebrate the next stage of our children's lives….. Moving forward into kindergarten with their friends, but not for little Clara, she would be moving into the Randwick Children's Hospital.

As a family, this is a move my wife and I know too well, and news of Clara’s illness has brought back many memories of the time our son spent at the Children’s Hospital after he was diagnosed with a rare virus at 8 months old. Thanks too the Children’s Hospital and the staff we were lucky enough to take our son home. Not a lot of kids there are as lucky as we were.

The people who work at the Randwick Children's Hospital are extraordinary and their professional, dedicated and caring approach to their role is amazing. We are confident that Clara and her family will be comforted by these incredible people in their ongoing fight against leukaemia.

This is where we can all make a change.

The ‘Kids For Life’ charity walk will see the ‘Happy Hearts’ staff,  family and friends walk 35kms from Helensburgh to Wollongong Harbour on Saturday 11th February 2012 to show our support for Clara and all children affected by illness by raising well needed funds to be donated to the Randwick Children’s Hospital in Sydney.

A handful of us are taking Just one day out of our lives to try and make a difference.We get to walk the beautiful coastline from Helensburgh to Wollongong and appreciate how lucky we are and what most of us take for granted.

We hope that the ‘Kids For Life’ walk can raise enough money to make a difference and provide this amazing Hospital with anything it may need. Let’s help kids move forward in battling these diseases so that one day they too can experience this wonderful coastline themselves with their family and friends.

Let’s help the kids out of their home at Randwick and back into their real homes with their families and friends.

The nurses and doctors can come visit them on their days off.......Wouldn’t that be nice...Well it could be....

Clara's progress is improving and after 4 weeks of therapy her leukaemia is in remission. What an achievement as we move closer to Christmas, what a great present.

Kids are our future, we were all kids once...
