Story
Our two little hero’s, Carter (6 year old boy) & Edie (3 year old girl) have had their bits of bad luck with health (like many of us). But we are so lucky that it hasn’t been anything more that they have had to suffer through.
Given the diagnoses of a unicameral bone cyst (in his right arm), just days after his 6th birthday, Carter is currently being a complete soldier, weathering his third bone break in less than 5 months. With limited treatment options, & more breaks + time likely being the most beneficial treatment with his road to recovery, he is choosing courage over fear daily, showing so much resilience, patience and determination to still do everything he wants to, despite having to wear his sling 24/7.
Edie, our Precious Princess has spent 3 stints in hospital, at least a week each time for RSV Bronchiolitis where her last admission at just 1.5 years old had her also battling pneumonia and a UTI. For all visits only assistive treatment was provided - She required oxygen and to be fed by a nasal gastric tube and we were again told time would be the best recovery tool. Fortunately now, her little lungs have developed and she doesn’t have any ongoing concerns.
Too many children (& their families) are forced to face physical and mental Illnesses, even we as adults would struggle through. Our children are the inspiration for the way I chose to live my life daily & because of this, On Friday the 13th October 2023 I will finally be giving my hair the chop & donating it through Sustainable Salons, Coast Hair. I’ve been growing it for a good few years & i’m ready (well, as ready as I’ll be), to get rid of these locks and donate them for a good cause - raising money for the Little Heroes Foundation. Please follow this link if you too would like to donate, any little bit helps those kids and their families in need.
Little Heroes Foundation Incorporated
In 29 years of operation, Little Heroes Foundation has raised close to $40 million - the majority going towards purchasing lifesaving equipment at Adelaide’s Women’s and Children’s Hospital and providing daily support to families through the Little Heroes Care Program. Little Heroes is also pleased to announce a new partnership with the Childhood Dementia Initiative. There are almost 90 deaths each year from this illness, yet little is known about the 70 different variants of this condition. The Foundation is currently running the campaign ‘Raise it for Renee’, supporting a South Australian mum with all three of her children experiencing the devastating impacts of terminal childhood dementia. Little Heroes has committed $50,000 to support Renee and families like hers. In conjunction with this campaign we are also funding a PhD student in Professor Kim Hemsley's team at Flinders University to assist them with finding potential treatments and cures for childhood dementia. Our partnership with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation continues to grow through our Big Talks for Little People campaign, along with a new commitment towards an Eating Disorder Facility to be built here in South Australia. For more information on our organisation, please visit https://www.littleheroesfoundation.com.au/ As Little Heroes Foundation receives no government funding, the difference that we make to the lives of seriously ill children is not possible without the continued support of people just like you. Fundraising is such an important area for all charities, and thanks to Go Fundraise, it is easy to fundraise for Little Heroes Foundation.
