Gussie's Head Shave for ILF
Gussie's Head Shave for ILF
Story
Hello!
I'm raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. I am going to shave my head on September 21st for this cause and I’d appreciate any contribution, big or small!
The ILF makes a difference to over 400 remote indigenous communities by delivering culturally-appropriate books and learning materials as well as empowering these communities to tell and publish their own stories.
The ILF has three programs: Book Supply, Book Buzz and Community Literacy Projects.
- Book Supply gifts engaging, new and culturally-appropriate books to communities in need
- Book Buzz promotes early literacy and familiarity with books in children under five with a dedicated story-time session. Carers are supported to share books with their children in home languages and in English.
- Community Literacy Projects produce and publish books by Indigenous people for Indigenous people. These books are important because they represent culture, community life and language.
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.
Here's a video on what the ILF does in communities if you'd like to know more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCz6YZhOr4E
Thanks so much for your support!
Gussie
Indigenous Literacy Foundation
Being able to read opens so many doors. But in very remote Indigenous communities, books are all too scarce and literacy levels are much lower than anywhere else in Australia. Our purpose is to make a difference to the lives of Indigenous families by not only gifting thousands of new culturally appropriate books - with a focus on early literacy and first language - but also by running programs to inspire the communities to tell and publish their own stories.
Please visit our website for more information about our programs.
