Wigs for Kids

Story

Alopcia Areata is an autoimmune disease where the body fails to recognise its own cells, and as a result, it destroys its own tissue. It most often appears as hair loss, when the body fails to realise that hair folicles aren't an invading cell and destroys the hair as it grows, resulting in either spot baldness or total baldness (total boldness only appears in 1-2% of cases).

This disease is becoming more and more prominent in young children across the world, leaving them with little to no hair. And how much children what no hair? Its humiliating when you're the only one in your class with no hair, and it destroys the already fragile self confidence.

After seeing youtube Carriehopefletcher cut off 18 inches of her hair and donating it, i felt incredibly inspired. As you all know, i have quite long hair. I've been growing my hair since i was 14 and it now reaches over 45cm in length. My heart goes out to all the young girls who have to grow up with now hair to braid or play with. So i've decided that this November i will be cutting off over 30cm of my hair to donate to the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation (AAAF) to make my hair into wigs for young children acound Australia.

Along with donating my hair, i wish to donate money to the foundation to support their research to find a cure and the support the companies that make these wigs for young girls.

Philippians 2:4 says that we should not only look after our own personal interests, but also the interests of those around us. So as much as i love my hair, I know that there will be others who need it more than i do.
