Story
Hi there!
On Februrary 4th I am walking/running 5km to raise money to support a charity that is close to my heart.
Most of you will know my story from 2022, I was very unwell for months and it wasn’t until I was very persistent with answers that I found out I had a bowel obstruction in my small bowel which ended up being cancer.
A lot of people think that bowel cancer only happens to older people, but I am in my 40s with no family history.
Bowel cancer is the deadliest cancer of Australians aged 25-44. There is a long way to go to improve the care experiences and health outcomes for younger people.
I would like to raise more awareness and money to help research into treatments. Small bowel cancer is considered a rare cancer and my experience meant there was not a lot of evidence or data available to assist me to make informed decisions regarding my health care. Every little bit will hopefully assist others who experience this journey.
