Keepin' It Dry (KID)

Story

Team Keepin’ It Dry (KID) is a team of motivated health and fitness professionals, personal trainers, nutritionists and athletes. Team KID believes in promoting sustainable living, through enabling people to establish productive environments providing for food, energy and shelter. KID is actively promoting the need for educating young people in the area of renewable technologies with a vision to develop a ‘zero carbon emission economy’.

CERES is an organisation with fundamentals in permaculture, a practical design concept applicable from the balcony to the farm, from the city to the wilderness. They understand the importance of nutritionally abundant food, fresh air and environmentally friendly technologies for the future. “CERES’ purpose is to initiate and support environmental sustainability and social equity, with an emphasis on cultural richness and community participation”, Judy Glick, CERES.

On 14th October 2012 Team KID will be running the Melbourne Marathon (42.2km) and we will stay “Dry” for 84 days, from midnight, Sunday, 22nd Jul 2012 to 1pm, Sunday, 14 Oct 2012 in order to raise money for CERES.

At the heart of CERES is the play space and café where children play and adults read or mingle over beverages. The place space already contains “The Nest” , “The Dome”, and the sand pit. CERES will use the money raised to erect an interactive entrance to the children’s play space and cafe. This will be in the form of a decorated, woven crawl through sculpture inspired by bower bird nests.

By helping CERES further develop the heart of this inner city self-sustained site, our aim is to help introduce the idea of environmental sustainability to children so that when they reach adulthood, they consider environmentally sustainable habits and careers.

We urge you to visit CERES during any daylight hours. It is a world within a world teasing your thoughts about how much there is to learn about cherishing nature and benefiting your own life style. Please visit them at:
· Roberts Street and Stewarts Street, Brunswick East, on the banks of the Merri Creek.
· Alternatively you can visit them online at www.ceres.org.au

You would usually spend the following in one night. Why not put that money toward CERES…

· $20 = tame Friday night drinks

· $60 = dinner with friends

· $100 = Night out on the TOWN!
