As a primary school teacher I spend most of my days shaping young minds… however this October I’ll be ‘shaping up’ in the ring to fight for Dementia Australia. I chose this charity because both sides of my family have experienced the ripple effect of a dementia diagnosis. Watching your family members forget you is never easy. I’m sure forgetting is harder.

About Dementia Australia: 

Dementia Australia supports families all across Australia, including Townsville. With Alzheimer’s disease as the most common form, there are more than 100 types of dementia. Although dementia can affect people of all ages, it is more common after the age of 65. Dementia is the second leading cause of death of Australians. It is fatal, and there is currently no cure. 

Your donations will directly support those living with dementia, their families and carers in your community. 

Services provided to the community of Townsville include – 

· Dementia Helpline where people can talk to caring and experienced professionals; 

· Living with Dementia Program where people can obtain information and talk confidentially with others in a similar situation; 

· Care for the Carer Program for family carers and family members to maintain positive carer wellbeing; 

· Library and information services which provides access to dementia related consumer health information and services; 

· Assisting many in time of need with our education seminars, workshops and programs. 

100% of donations go directly to Dementia Australia and will be put towards helping local families gain access to vital support services in our community.
