Dogs Canberra
Dogs Canberra
Story
This November, a small team from Dogs Canberra will set off from Perth on a 4,000-kilometre journey across Australia, raising funds for Lifeline Canberra and Dogs Canberra and encouraging conversations about mental health and connection in our communities.
Ride for the Ruff Days will begin in Perth on 1 November 2026, with the team committing to 40 days and 40 nights on the road. The 40-day challenge will conclude on 10 December 2026, before a community ride brings the journey home to Canberra from 11-13 December.
At the heart of the ride is a simple idea: everyone has rough days, and no one should have to get through them alone.
Support can look different for everyone. Sometimes it is a conversation with another person or simply knowing someone is there to listen. At other times, it can be the quiet companionship and connection people find with a dog.
That idea brings together two Canberran organisations offering connection and support in very different ways. Lifeline Canberra provides crisis support and suicide prevention services, while Dogs Canberra creates accessible opportunities for people to connect with dogs while also supporting vulnerable dogs in need. All funds raised through Ride for the Ruff Days will be shared equally between the two organisations.

Dogs Canberra Limited
Dogs Canberra is a Canberra-based charity built around a simple idea: sometimes, a connection with a dog can go a long way.
We believe that connection in life can come in many forms. Through our Community Walking Program, foster program and community outreach, we provide accessible opportunities for people to experience the companionship, comfort and connection that dogs can offer.
At the same time, we support vulnerable dogs, including surrenders and dogs from overloaded shelters, providing them with training, real-life socialisation, & safe and loving environments while they take their next steps.
We’re here to make a difference at both ends of the leash. :)
