Mision Mexico Fundraiser

Story

Hi everyone!

I’m heading to Mision Mexico (read below to find out what Mision Mexico is all about!) in January and am hoping to raise some funds for school holiday activities and much needed household supplies.

Unfortunately I can't stay as long as I'd like so I want to make sure my time there is worthwhile by starting a project that will benefit the kids for years to come: a garden!

Some of my fondest childhood memories (I’m sure a lot of you can relate) come from spending time in the garden. There was nothing more magical than watching a plant develop from a tiny seed, or getting to go and pick fruit and veggies straight from the garden. So, I’d love to provide an opportunity for the kids to grow plants for food and entertainment, and to help develop their sense of responsibility and nurturing.

Any extra funds will be used for art and craft supplies to help keep the kids entertained over the school holidays and any other items the household needs.

I know the Christmas period is a tough of on all our pockets so any donation will be greatly appreciated, no amount is too small and it will go a long way!

                                                             ***

For those who don’t know: Misión México provides a loving, secure family home for children and teens who have been abused, neglected, orphaned or abandoned, most of them coming from backgrounds of extreme poverty.

The refuge doesn’t receive any ongoing financial support from the government so they rely solely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for donations to aid their cause.

With the help of this support, Misión México has given more than 250 children (with over 40 in their care at any one time) a second chance at life by providing them with a loving, nurturing home. The children have been given the opportunity to attend school (something the majority of them would never experience) and participate in activities and hobbies that help with their personal development and self-confidence.

Mexican Children's Development (Mision Mexico) (Global Development Group - J731N)

Misión México (J731N) is a Global Development Group (GDG) approved aid and development project and has come a long way since 2000, when Australian founders Pamela and Alan Skuse made a life-changing decision and built a haven bringing safety and love to hundreds of children and young adults in Tapachula, Mexico.

Today, the organisation has grown into three children and youth homes, a community outreach centre and a non-for-profit hotel and surf school. Together, they aim to break cycles of poverty, abuse and inequality; providing opportunities for every child and youth that they care for to succeed. Through long-term solutions like education, practical and emotional care, and community development, they provide tools and opportunities for children and youth to advance in every aspect of their lives, becoming the best that they can be.

Together they are Misión México Foundation!
