Story

A warm hello Family, Friends and any others that have found themselves here!

I found myself here because I want to support Hands Across the World in making a difference to the lives of vulnerable Cambodian people. And how are they making a difference you may ask? By empowering, preventing and making an impact through education. This all begins with The Siem Reap Interactive Teacher Training (ITTSR) project.

Hands Across the World's incredible CEO, Cindy Debes, created The Siem Reap Interactive Teacher Training Project when she saw the low quality or non-existent education and schooling in poor rural communities. The lack of education in poor and rural communities means people are more venerable to the dangers of sexual exploitation, trafficking and human slave labour. When Hands Across the World started building schools in these communities they realised that without quality teaching methods it would simply not work. With this The Interactive Teacher Training Siem Reap was born. This is a course in which teachers from marginalised communities can come and receive quality training and learn effective teaching methods and techniques. Once these teachers have acquired their new skills and knowledge they are able to teach children at a school in their communities.

So how has the ITTSR helped so far?

- In 2016/2017 the pilot project found that 20 teachers go onto teach a total of 1223 students (That’s an average of 61 students per teacher!)

- According to the current curriculum, every trainee has the task of passing on his/hers acquired knowledge in the course to their fellow teachers. On average, this is 5 teacher colleagues per trainee. This peer coaching is supervised, monitored and recorded by the ITTSR trainers.

- There has been 20 trainees

- 1,200 students

- 100 teacher colleagues that have benefited from peer coaching

- 6000 students that have received teaching from peer coached teachers

That’s a total of 7,320 disadvantaged Cambodians that have been positively affected by this project.

And we are hoping with your support these numbers will only increase and many more lives will be changed. Every cent counts and every donation is greatly appreciated by everyone at Hands Across the World.

Here is how your support can make an outstanding difference!

- $ 10 Hire a Khmer (Cambodian) Lecturer for 2 hours to help with language barriers.

- $ 25 Enabling a trainee to be coached the guidance of a qualified mentor who observes in his/her classes.

- $ 35 Costs a water filter for the classroom.

- $ 50 is the total cost of materials for a trainee.

- $ 65 Costs a bike for a trainee to attend the class regularly.

- $ 300 Allowing a trainee graduation party who otherwise have no means to celebrate their accomplishments (including food, drink, certificate for each).

- $ 1000 Provide a classroom for the entire course.

- $ 3,000 syllabus creation

All this amazing work wouldn’t happen without our supporters! Help make a difference to someone’s life today.

Hands Across the World

Hands Across the World's mission is to tackle the atrocities of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and human slave labour through education programs. Empowerment of the local people and prevention of these outrageous crimes.

The main means through which we aim to achieve this is education. We believe education is the great equalizer and the key to preventing these atrocities. It also provides opportunities by empowering people to create a brighter future for the whole community.

The 'Interactive Teacher Training' was formed in response to the low-quality teaching methodology in poor rural communities around Siem Reap. Here teachers from marginalized communities come together to learn quality teaching techniques, these teachers then spread their skills and knowledge within their remote community schools to the children. These students then have a chance to move away from potential dangers of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and human slave labour.
