Story
Hi Everyone,
This is about making a difference......
Raising awareness and funds, providing information, and supporting further action to prevent and treat pancreatic cancer!
There are two elements to this:
1. I am shaving my head, on Sunday 15 July, to raise funds
2. Hosting a forum, to provide information.....
Stay tuned for further details about this forum on Saturday 25 August.....will include key speaker Associate Professor Lara Lipton!
Both elements aim to raise awareness....
Pancreatic cancer is hideous, impacts quality of life, and takes lives.
Yes, this is personal to me and my family. On 30 April this year, my dad died from pancreatic cancer.
We laughed, cried, challenged each other and I learnt from my dad, I cherish the special memories that will stay with me forever. This can not be all.......
In 2017, 2915 people died from pancreatic cancer, approximately 3080 Australians are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year; only 7% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer live longer than five years.
Yes, one person is one person too many; they are our family, friends, colleague, member of our community.
As we live our lives, making the most of opportunities, overcoming challenges, moving about the world with the earth beneath our feet; this is one of those opportunities to make a difference....
- to honour those who are no longer with us
- for those currently undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer
- those yet to be diagnosed
- to support specialists to build on and use their expertise and innovation for research and clinical trials on pancreatic cancer
Funds raised will be directly donated to the Gi Institue, specifically for research and clinical trials on pancreatic cancer. I'd appreciate any contribution
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to the Gi Institute
From me and my family, to you and yours, thank you for taking the time to read this and for your support
Heidi
