Hi - we all see the nameless and homeless souls that live on our streets - most of us walk a little faster, shudder a little at their misfortune, and most certainly work to avoid eye contact and connection.  

Late last year I became a volunteer with Rough Edges in Darlinghurst (Sydney). Rough Edges also known as Roughies is a lounge room for street people.  It's a safe place for people on the streets, an open door for absolutely anyone to come in and experience hospitality.  

Those who enter get a feed - but more importantly, they get acknowledgement, eye contact, a smile, a bad joke, a conversation and some respect.  I am fortunate to have this opportunity.
