The Long Walk Home - Julie Busuttil

Story

Vi (mum) is only 71 years old and has younger onset dementia.
May is Dementia Awareness month and is when my family and I will undertake 'The Long Walk Home'. We will walk from Wagga all the way to Narrandera, approximately 100km with little rest.
I coined it the 'Long Walk Home' because it is a common thing for people with dementia to want to go 'home'. Home is often not the physical place home, rather a constant yearning for want to feel safe and comfortable back in their home where they grew up as a child, and it is a really long walk.
Please help me raise funds for research into this awful disease.
All proceeds will be donated to Dementia Australia.
What is younger onset dementia?
The term younger onset dementia is used to describe any form of dementia diagnosed in people under the age of 65.
The latest figures show that younger onset dementia affects approximately 25,000 Australians with dementia being diagnosed in people in their 50s, 40s and even as early as their 30s.
For more information visit Dementia Australia https://www.dementia.org.au/about-dementia/what-is-younger-onset-dementia
Those who have witnessed their loved ones suffering from this awful disease would know that each day is a blessing and each moment with your loved ones is precious.
Thank you for making a difference.

Dementia Australia is a unified, national peak body for people, of all ages, living with all forms of dementia, and their families and carers. We provide advocacy, support services, education and information, as well as fundraise and facilitate research into dementia.

We aim to give people living with Dementia the respect they deserve and the support they need. We advocate to government and industry on behalf of people living with dementia, their carers and families and work hard to raise community awareness and understanding of dementia. Please visit www.dementia.org.au to access a wide range of resources and how to contact our National Dementia Helpline.

Community support through donations and sponsorship, as well as bequests, is vital to the continuation and growth of our work.
