25 November SHAVE DAY!!!
Just finished counting the donations from the BBQ at Aldi Wodonga (yes plugging them again, they were BRILLIANT!!!) and today we raised $747.55!!! So humbled by people's generous contributions :) A massive thank you to my brother Bryce, Dad Ken, sister in law Bec and stepmother Shirley for their help and support over the course of today, and always.
Although many people have told me how brave I am to do what I did today, I would challenge them on that. To me the brave ones are those who battle with this terrible dease. They are my inspiration. They are why I made the choice to shave my head. Because I have a choice to be hairless, they don't. Xxx
21 November
Well it's only 4 days till the big event!!!
So excited to share that I've found a wig maker to donate my hair to.
Luis Barrnett and sons in Richmond, Melbourne. They will use my hair to makes wig, then donate that wig to the cancer council. So pleased it will go to someone that it may just make a difference to in a terrible time of their lives.
Am very pleased to share some more businesses who are contributing to the day.
Azzi Nusser Service Center
Whitehouse motorcycles
Barnawartha golf club
Adamshurst restaurant and function Center
Elgas Wodonga
RBR party hire
Thanks to my brother Bryce and his fiancé Bec for helping with those donations.
Now I want to share a little about my grandmother Pearl, who we called Nonnie.
2 months ago when I rang the lovely Michelle at cure cancer she asked me if there was a date I had in mind to do my shave. I decided to do it the weekend after Nonnies anniversary. Yesterday she's been gone for 27 years. Being only in grade 6 when she died I'm really sad to say I don't have all that many memories of her.
The fondest memory I do have is of whenever I had a sleepover at her place, getting into her bed the next morning for a snuggle. It was the best place in the whole world for a kid, being the centre of your grandmothers universe!
The most vivid memory I have is of a time when all the girls in the family went for a walk from Nonnies house to the supermarket. She bought us all a dairy queen, and said every time you have one I want you to think of me. And even now, 27 years later, every time I or one of my kids have a soft serve, I remember her and smile.
No child should lose someone so special to them at such an early age!!! Memories should be made daily, not something you have to scour the depths of your childhood to find!!!
We lost Nonnie to breast cancer at only 57.
We lost my Mum to bowel cancer at only 48.
We lost Mums cousin Bronwyn to cervical cancer at only 38.
My sister in law Dee was only 39 when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 18 months later her fight still continues.
Cancer is a cruel and indiscriminate disease.
Please please dig deep and donate what you can.
A cure needs to be found so that our future generations don't have to go through the horrendous loss and pain that has ripped through my family. And tragically so may others also.
I hope to see as many of you as are able on Sunday at Aldi Wodonga. Either to grab a sausage from midday or for the shave at 4 o'clock.
Cheers Kristy xox
14 November
If you haven't already joined the Facebook event "Kristys Buzz Cut for Bucks!!!" the time to do so is now!
I'm running an auction for a chance to cut one of my ponytails off.
Here's what I posted on there:
Ok who would like to chop one of my ponytails off????
Everyone has a chance here, as I'm going to be auctioning off a few of them! So highest pledge wins.
This auction will end at midday on Friday. At that time the highest bid is the provisional winner, then once they've made their donation on my fundraising page it becomes official.
Don't worry if you miss out, I will be auctioning more coming up to the shave. (Will find out exactly how many ponytails we'll do when I have a final trim Friday. I want to get as much useable hair for the wig maker as possible!!!)
Also I will do a random draw of everyone who has donated by Saturday 24th at midday for a turn with a pair of scissors too!
Ok.
Ready?
GO!
11 days to go. Please add more friends!!!
So get amongst it people! Join the Facebook event and start bidding!

30 October
Welcome if this is your first visit or welcome back if you've been following previously.
What a week!
I've been out around Wodonga asking businesses to display my fundraising poster in their shops.
I am absolutely flabbergasted by just how many people I've spoken to that have had cancer touch their lives!
If I EVER had a shadow of a doubt that I was shaving my head for the right cause, now I am BEYOND convinced! We DESPERATELY need a cure for this terrible, indiscriminate disease!!!!
I was so focused on doing this for Mum, Nonnie and Dee that I literally forgot all the other people in my life who've been dealing with some form of scare with cancer.
Two of my best mates have had abnormal pap smear results and have had to have a portion of their cervix removed. Thank goodness for pap smears, if you're overdue BOOK ONE TODAY!
My Dad goes regularly to have skin cancers removed from all over his body, mostly his face. Slip, slop and slap people!
Plus have found some other friends that also had their own struggle that I didn't even know about, with skin and blood cancers.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this. Even if you don't know me, after this week I'm CERTAIN you know someone whose life has been changed forever due to cancer.
So share, like and tweet this page please!!!
Join the Facebook event I've set up "Kristys Buzz Cut for Bucks!!!" then add all your friends.
We need to get the word out there so we can raise as much money as we can for these young doctors search to find a cure!!!!
Stayed tuned for all the wonderful businesses who're donating to this very important cause :)
Cheers Kristy xox
24th October
So for 3 weeks now I've been trying to write about my Mum. On the 15th of October it was 16 years since we lost her. How on earth was I to decide what to share and still make you see the impact cancer has had without it diminishing her life or having it sound trite?!
So now I'm just going to write, and trust that whatever comes out is what's meant to, to help you understand the major factor in me deciding to shave my head all those years ago.
She was my mother, I love her and I miss her terribly. And I'm so bloody angry that my kids never got the pleasure of meeting her. She would've been an awesome Nanny!
Her battle with cancer started when I was at uni in 1993. She went into hospital for a hysterectomy and instead they found bowel cancer.
Treatment, operations and a stoma later and she was in remission, even got back to playing her beloved tennis for awhile. But then it came back. At the end of May in 1996 they said they couldn't do anything more for her. I was set to get married in November, we moved it forward to just 6 weeks after she got that news. She was a shadow of her former self, but she was there. We've never been an "I love you" kind of family, but that day, I made sure I said the words out loud to her.
Just 3 months later and she was gone.
So many times one of my children will do or say something and I find myself thinking "must remember to tell Mum that". Sometimes I remember before I even finish the thought. That's the easy times though. The rough ones are when I don't remember till I have the phone in my hands.
My Mum died from cancer that was caused by a gene change. Her brother says that my Mum is his angel, as he only had his first colonoscopy after she died, and they caught his polyps while still treatable.
So to my Mother, Keralyn Irene, from all those in the future who will benefit from the cure found by these amazing young doctors at cure cancer, we thank you. We thank you for inspiring me to shave my head, and for inspiring those who read your story to donate. Either because your story reminded them of their own loved one, or of how 16 years later you're still so inspiring to your daughter.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers Kristy xox
4 october: Welcome back!
It's a week in and things are slowly falling into place. I've finally decided on a name for my fundraising venture, "Kristy's buzz cut for bucks"! Thanks to everyone who helped me brainstorm ideas :)
This new photo that's been uploaded today was taken yesterday. Now as my hair is so long you may be wondering what I'm going to do with it when I cut it off?
Good question! If anyone knows of anywhere that takes donations to make wigs please post the info for me. I want to make sure it goes where it's needed the most :)
I have a local hairdresser willing to donate her time to shave me. Her name is Kerryn from KGs hair designs on Morrison Street here in Wodonga. She is going to put my hair into several plaits so as to retain the length of my hair as much as possible.
How much would you like to cut one of these plaits? I will be holding auctions so that you can be involved in this wonderful fundraising event too!
Now all please take note: you don't have to wait until shave day to donate! You can start right away!
The first person to make a donation will get the pleasure of cutting the first plait!!!
So hop to it people! Share, like, comment and donate away!
I really want this shave to make a difference, and that is going to take help from all of you!
Cheers

27 September: Welcome to my sponsorship page!
I'll start by sharing with you why I've decided to shave my head to raise funds for curecancer.org.au
When I was in my teens I lost my maternal grandmother to breast cancer.
When I was in my twenties I lost my Mum to bowel cancer.
Now I'm in my thirties and my dear friend and sister in law is battling with ovarian cancer.
I've always toyed with the idea of shaving my head, but I wanted to do it for a charity to honour and pay respect to those I love who've battled the big C. When I saw the cure cancer ad on television earlier this year I knew I'd found just the charity that I was willing to whip my locks off for!
I look forward to sharing more about these 3 amazing women who've inspired me to cut my curls over the next few months leading up to my big shave on November 25th.
Thank you all in advance for your support to help find a cure. Not just for helping me acknowledge these 3 special people, but for all of those we love, and sadly may have lost, through their fight against all kinds of cancer.
Cheers
