Leave No Child Behind - Strengthening OI Communities
Leave No Child Behind - Strengthening OI Communities
Story
In 2015 CLAN is committed to ongoing efforts to support our Osteogenesis Imperfecta Communities internationally. In particular, some of our Young Neighbours are working hard to raise much needed funds to provide Frazer Chairs for children living in Pakistan with Oseteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease).
Why do we need to help children living with OI in Pakistan?
CLAN visited the National Institute of Child Health in Karachi in November 2014 and found that babies and children with OI were not living the same quality of life as their neighbour’s children in Australia. Families had limited access to essential medicines and facilities to ease an weren't empowered to help their children enjoy life to the fullest. At the inaugural CLAN sponsored OI Support Club meeting (story here), families expressed in heartfelt terms the need for help. They are keen to grow their fledgling OI Community stronger, but need support to get things up and running.
Whilst much is possible thanks to dedicated volunteer efforts, modest funding to support our work is essential. Funds are used to:
- sponsor local community development workers who assist the OI community with their work
- support Club meetings for families and educational sessions for health professionals
- financially support the poorest families to attend Club meetings
- translate educational resources on OI into local languages
- maintain website, social media and advocacy efforts
If you are able to financially support our work with a donation please leave a message of support for the Club members as well!
If you would like to contact CLAN about getting involved in a practical work, please let us know (info@clanchildhealth.org) - we would love to hear from you!

CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours)
CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours) is a not-for-profit, Non Government Organisation, established in Australia in 2004. Our vision is to maximise quality of life for children living with chronic health conditions in resource-poor countries of the world. These children suffer significant, preventable and inequitable morbidity, mortality and disability, and CLAN believes this situation is at odds with the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child. CLAN is currently working to help children who are living with Diabetes, Autism, Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), Nephrotic Syndrome (NS), Duchenne Muscular Dystropy (DMD) and Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) amongst others, and we collaborate with partners in Vietnam, Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines.
