Leilani's Great Hair Cut and Donation for The Australian Alopecia Foundation
Leilani's Great Hair Cut and Donation for The Australian Alopecia Foundation
Story
Hi everyone,
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
My name is Leilani and I am almost 10 years old.
Please help me to raise funds for the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation as I cut off my long curls to be donated for those without hair so they can have an amazing, natural looking wig made from real hair!
I have been growing my hair now for more than 2 years. It has been pretty hard because it is super fine and curly so it has needed alot of brushing, moisturising and plaiting to avoid too many knots (Thanks Mum).
I first learnt about Alopecia a few years ago when I read an article in our local paper about a little girl like me who suffered from this condition and needed a wig. Some people with alopecia lose their hair for life; others lose it just for a time. It can be a condition that arises from illnesses like cancer or for other medical reasons. Either way it would be difficult, especially being a girl to have no hair. The wigs that are made from hair donations are more comfortable, breathable and look real.
This sparked the idea to help where I could. Now I need YOUR help to raise money for this foundation that is solely volunteer run. Any donation will help them. It can cost around $20000 for a wig from childhood to adulthood so I am hoping to raise as much as possible this year. November is Alopecia Awareness week and I would like to donate as much as I can by then. I will cut off my hair in April but will continue to collect donations up until November. If you would like to join me and donate your hair it needs to be 30cm long, not coloured or treated. Ponytails need to be tied at the top and bottom before they are sent to the AAAF.
Thankyou so much for helping me to help this great cause
xxLeilani
