Story

"Let's Shake things up and Find a Cure for Parkinson's disease'

Scott was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2016 at the age of 40, This is a cause very passionate to myself and my family.

"What initially 2 years ago presented as some kind of minor nerve issue, had ravaged my body to the extent that I could no longer write my own name. I couldn't cut my own food. I could no longer bait my 9 year old sons fishing hook. I could no longer put a band aid on my 6 year old daughter's scraped knee. I couldn't pat my dog with my right hand and I'd lost the ability to be the husband my wife deserved.

At age 40, you don't expect a neurologist to talk about you using the words Parkinson's, neurological, progressive and degenerative. For gods sake I'm a young man, I've always been fit and healthy however this thing has picked a fight with me. And I choose to fight. I have to. The medication helps keep symptoms at bay for now, but it is only effective for a limited time and as the disease progresses the dosages will increase and the effect will wane as the disease slowly robs me of a quality of life.

"It aint how hard you hit, it's how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward". I choose to keep moving forward but we need your help. My kids need a father, my wife needs a husband, we need a cure. That's where you come in. Please help us find a cure. I promise to keep fighting, and I believe that your generosity will help find a cure

Through our collaboration with the Michael J Fox Foundation we know that every dollar raised will be strategically directed in a high-impact area of research within Australia.

    About Shake It Up

Shake It Up Australia Foundation together with our partner at The Michael J. Fox Foundation are the largest non-government funder of Parkinson's research across multiple institutes in Australia.   Founded in 2011 we have funded over $11.5M in research targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately the cure.

The Foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44.

Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The approach MJFF takes to assessing, funding and project managing the world’s best research all over the globe eliminates redundancy, ensures efficiency and unites the global community in the quest to find a cure.

Clyde realised that funding Parkinson’s research was the best thing that he could do to help himself, his family and the 100,000 other Australians living with the disease. With that clear in his mind, Clyde founded Shake It Up Australia Foundation (SIUAF) to give other Australians the opportunity to join his quest.
