Journey to Nepal

Story

Hi my name is Isabel

Since last year I've had the Himalayas on my mind, a journey that seemed so dreamy and so distanced from my reality. A far away land, a land full of spirituality, healing, kindness, simplicity, peace, remoteness, breathtakingly grand landscapes and ambience. A land where only very few dreamers ever get to go.

Then on April 25 and again on May 12 Nepal experienced catastrophic earthquakes, injuring and killing thousands of people- Men, Women and Children, destroying villages and structures. Over 5000 schools across Nepal were damaged, and affecting over 1.5 Million children.

Like many I was heartbroken to hear of these disastrous events. My heart ached as I watched this country suffer from the comfort of my home.

I searched for the best way to help and came across 'World Expeditions' efforts. A leading ethical travel and adventure company. Initially they focused on distributing food and shelter to remote mountain communities, and now more recently the focus has shifted to assisting mountain communities rebuild their schools.

In order to fulfill a calling deep within my soul and play my part in assisting our fellow humans I have decided to join 'World Expeditions'. My dream will become my reality in October, I will be helping rebuild a school in the himalayas, Nepal. The Manju Shree Primary School in the Lura community, Eastern Nepal, which schools from grade 1 to 5 with a total of 61 students.

Besides providing my physical assistance I hope to raise some much needed funds for the people of Nepal. All funds raised go directly to the 'World Expeditions- Nepal Earthquake Appeal'.

After enduring a catastrophic disaster, see your donations make a difference to the lives of these wonderful people.

So please, join me on my journey, with your contribution, any amount is a valued amount.

Lets help rebuild Nepal together.

Namaste!

  • ‘My Year without Matches’ by Claire Dunn- TAKEN

Claire Dunn has donated a signed copy of her book. “Disillusioned and burnt out by her job, Claire Dunn quits a comfortable life to spend a year off the grid in a wilderness survival program. Her new forest home swings between ally and enemy as reality- and the rain- sets in.

Claire’s adventure unfolds over four seasons. She arrives in summer, buoyant with idealism, and is initially confronted with physical challenges: building a shelter, escaping the vicious insects and making fire without matches. By winter, however, her emotional landscape has become the toughest terrain of all. Can she connect with her inner spirit to guide her journey onwards?

Brimming with earthy charm and hard-won wisdom, My Year without Matches is one women’s quest for belonging, to the land and to herself.”

World Expeditions Foundation Ltd (Nepal Earthquake Appeal)

The catastrophic earthquake that struck Nepal on 25 April, and the subsequent earthquake on 12 May, resulted in a massive loss of life and destroyed much property. In the initial weeks following the earthquakes, the funds raised through this appeal, were directed to purchasing and delivering food packages, tarpaulins, corrugated galvanised sheets and blankets to mountain communities in need. Many of these communities are home to World Expeditions porters. As Nepal moved into the reconstruction phase, funds were directed to the efforts to re-establish schools in the mountains, namely: 1. Construction of four classrooms at Manju Shree Primary School in the Solukhumbu 2. Constructon of the main office building at Kshamawatu Secondary School in the Dolakha district 3. Construction of three classrooms at Shree Setibhume Secondary School in the Rasuwa district We are currently raising funds to build three classrooms for Shree Manjushree Secondary School in the Gorkha district, we require AUD$39,300 for the construction. Click the DONATE button above to help. World Expeditions Foundation does not levy any administration fee. Donations are tax deductible for Australian citizens.
