Story
Thanks so much for your support ive raised the goal let's keep this good thing going!
Having dreadlocks has been awesome but the times they are a changing! Figured I better make good use of that fifteen odd years of growth and wild hairdos. What better way than to support a small and extremely important local charity.
Thanks to all the support I've received I am now aiming to raise ten thousand dollars for Take Hold, a local program run through the Ted Noffs foundation. Your donation will help support local youth struggling with homelessness. I feel extremely blessed to be as lucky as I am and im sure you do too, why not share our good luck around a bit. The knock on effects of helping even just one person get back on their feet are beyond the comprehension of most of us living comfortably. I cant thank you enough for supporting me in this endeavour, small organisations like this make huge differences in the lives of many and your donation will do exactly that.
TAKE HOLD is a Mentoring, Life Skills and Social Enterprise Program. This service is part of a suite of programs working collaboratively, aimed at substantially reducing the ACT homeless population. The primary aim of the program is to support young people (16-25) who are transitioning into or out of homelessness, to develop the life skills necessary to connect them into their community and avoid homelessness. This is done through mentoring, life skills development and the creation of social enterprise. We run living skills groups and work one to one with clients. We also can provide mentors to work with young people one to one.
The mentor works collaboratively to support an individual mentee in the development of their skills and capacities as they redevelop their healthy connection with community. The proposed length of the relationship is 12 months with a commitment of an average of 6 – 10 hours per month. Training, supervision and support provided for mentors.
Ted Noffs Foundation
Ted Noffs Foundation supports young people in need and their families to overcome barriers to a full and happy life, gain equitable access to essential services, and connect meaningfully with their community. Each year, thousands of young people access Noffs for health, welfare, accommodation, education, and employment support.
We care for these young people by providing residential rehabilitation services (for complex drug and alcohol and mental health needs), school counselling and out-reach services, and through the Street University – a free centre which engages young people in educational, recreational, and arts-based programs.
Our goal is to assist young people to become healthy and well-adjusted members of society. All our programs are designed to equip young people with the skills they need to better manage their own lives; in essence - we help them, help themselves!
