Time For Justice - Siobhan Clifford
Time For Justice - Siobhan Clifford
Story
Dear Colleagues,
It was recently brought to my attention that an hourly charge-out rate of $500 is equal to a week and a half’s salary for a lawyer working to combat sex-trafficking with International Justice Mission in Cebu, the Philippines.
That challenged me. More guilt about how I should be doing more? No.
As I’ve looked into International Justice Mission more closely, I am impressed. IJM was started by a lawyer. They have over 15 years of combatting violent oppression – slavery, sex-trafficking, police brutality – across the developing world. They do what lawyers do best: bring justice.
This year, International Justice Mission’s fifth partner office, IJM Australia, was launched.
I had the opportunity to attend a function recently where I heard former IJM field staff speak. Their current focus is fighting sex trafficking in the Philippines. There are 2 million children globally being exploited in the commercial sex trade. Cebu is a major centre in that trade.
IJM doesn’t stop at rescuing victims, as important as that is, but their focus is the long game: reforming the whole justice system so it protects the poor.
They’re seeing remarkable progress. More information? Click here.
But it’s a big task.
IJM is currently seeking funds for the annual salaries of 2 lawyers, 2 social workers and a paralegal to work at the Cebu office. The fundraising campaign is called Time For Justice: legal professionals are invited to donate the equivalent of our hourly charge-out rate.
I’ve committed to become a Time For Justice ambassador. My goal is to raise $5000. I’m providing part of that. Would you consider joining me? All donations are tax deductible.
Thank you for joining me in making justice systems work for the poor.
Warm regards,
Siobhan Clifford

International Justice Mission Australia
International Justice Mission Australia partners with IJM globally to deliver programs overseas bringing rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM lawyers, investigators and aftercare professionals work with local officials to ensure immediate victim rescue and aftercare, to prosecute perpetrators and to ensure that public justice systems – police, courts and laws – effectively protect the poor.
Your donation will go to our Time For Justice campaign. These funds will sponsor local IJM lawyers and social workers working to make the vulnerable children of Cebu safe from sex trafficking.
