Story
SICKLE CELL ANAEMIA & THALASSAEMIA PARENTS & FRIENDS
Hi there!
This is an initiative by Parents for Families and is supported by the Thalassaemia Society of NSW.
We are organising a multi-cultural celebration picnic with fun & games for the patients, family and friends of the sickle-cell and thalassaemia community in Westmead Children's Hospital and Sydney Children's Hospital.
It is a chance for families to share stories, kids to make new friends, parents to get some support (& advice) and everyone to relax and enjoy themselves. Many families spend the year managing on-going health concerns, attending hospitals and dealing with the stress brought by these conditions.
Our aim is simple - to give a little positive respite and build some social support. We'd appreciate any contribution, big or small.
All donations will be used to help run this patient and family event and, if extra funds are available, to support future patient family support activities. Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to the Thalassaemia Society of NSW. All donations over $2.00 can receive a tax-deductible receipt.

The Thalassaemia Society of NSW will continue in it’s mission to provide support for patients and carers of patients with thalassaemia, sickle cell anaemia, black-fan diamond disorder and other haemoglobinopathies, while providing funding for treatment, research and education.Thalassaemia & Sickle Anaemia are part of a group of genetic blood disorders which require life-long care. Communities with ancestry from the Mediterranean, Middle-East, South Asia, South-East Asia and Africa have a higher than average chance of carrying these genes.
