Upper Mustang Odyssey

Dear friends

In August I'm heading off on a fund raising trek for the Australian Himalayan Foundation. My aim is to raise $2,000 towards  funding for AHF projects, especially their flagship Teacher Training and Quality Education Program.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?  By donating to my gofundraise page. A pledge of $60 can cover a scholarship for a child to attend school for a year in the lower Solu Khumbu. That amount can of course be halved or multiplied ... education is the key to escaping the poverty trap.

To quote the AHF's General Manager Carolyn Hamer Smith,"it was a transformative experience for us to see our flagship project firsthand in February this year. I can confidently tell you that the program is having an enormous impact and evidence indeed that 'from little things, big things grow'."

MY PLEDGE I've organised three trekking groups who will experience first hand the beauty of wild Upper Mustang and in the process each client has pledged to raise $1,000 each for the AHF. As a further pledge I'm giving a prize of a 1kg bucket of my 100% raw Cool Climate Bundanoon honey  to the most generous donor.

We'll be crossing the mighty Kali Gandaki river numerous times, trekking over a number of high altitude passes up to 4,500 metres, and riding through countryside that is reminiscent of rural Tibet 1,000 years ago. Very little has changed in Upper Mustang and life is tough for many.  This will be quite an arduous adventure for someone who is 62-years-young.
