Back Track Adventures
Back Track Adventures
Story
Back Track Adventures is partnering with KTF to raise funds to Light Up Naduri Village! Naduri Village is located halfway along the Kokoda Track in the Central Province of Papua New Guinea. KTF is an international development NGO that has been working in PNG since 2003. Back Track Adventures is a leading trekking company that has been taking expeditions along the Kokoda Track since 1985.
Together, we need to raise $17,000 (AUD) which will be used to install a household solar lighting and power system onto every residential house in Naduri village, providing villagers with a reliable source of lighting for the first time ever. There are 43 households in Naduri village and each house will be provided with four powerful solar lights and a charging station that can be used to charge mobile phones and other small appliances.
Solar lighting and energy makes an enormous difference to communities in remote and rural PNG. Children can do their homework after dark, parents can work on small businesses, reliance on toxic and dangerous kerosene and campfires is reduced, and women and girls are safer at night time in their villages.
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to the Kokoda Track Foundation Limited who are managing and delivering the project in partnership with Back Track Adventures.
Back Track Adventures are starting the fundraising with a $1,300 donation. Donations above $2 are tax deductible in Australia.
Thanks so much for your support!
KTF (Kokoda Track Foundation)
We're an Aussie NGO that works with people and communities to improve lives, livelihoods and futures of Papua New Guineans, keeping the spirit of Kokoda alive.
Expanding beyond our original focus region of Kokoda in Oro Province, KTF now works with communities across 16 of PNG’s 22 provinces....and we have big plans for 2021 and beyond.
We operate programs in the vital areas of education, health, equality and leadership.
Over the past decade, we have delivered a range of projects including the construction of school and aid post infrastructure along and around theKokoda Track, delivery of educational supplies to 20 schools and drugs and medical supplies to 15 aid posts, postings of 15 teachers and over a dozen communityhealth workers, distribution of over 32,000 solar lights across the country, installation of 1,000+ household solar units in the Kokoda catchment, establishment of businesses by Women’s Groups in five provinces and the design and delivery of the Archer Leadership program to find and foster PNG’s future leaders for 10 years.
600+ students currently have a second chance at education, studying Grades 9 to 12 via Flexible Open Distance Education at Kokoda College, Balimo College and the Motu Koita FODE Centre. We have trained 3,685 elementary teachers via our Teach for Tomorrow project and supported the ongoing professional development for teachers via Teach for Tomorrow II, upskilling 220+ teacher trainers. Teach for Tomorrow, the Early Years is developing and implementing Early Childhood Education frameworks in conjunction with provincial Departments of Education. Our network of coaches in Western Province is also working with a core group of 37 elementary teachers to build their teaching skills.
