WELCOME TO THE 2014 ZimSEF STREET SOCCER FUNDRAISING PAGE!

We appreciate that for many of you, this is the first time you’ve heard of ZimSEF. To get you better acquainted with who we are as an organisation, please watch this short 5 minute film on where we’ve come from.

ZimSEF (Zimbabwe Sports & Education Fund) is an Australian based non-profit organisation established for the benefit of Zimbabwean children and families. Our education fund currently sponsors 15 orphaned or vulnerable children from the Hatcliffe community in Harare, Zimbabwe. And for 2015 we are looking to expand our activities into the wider community.

Being a small non-profit organisation, ZimSEF relies entirely on the generosity of others to reach our fundraising target each year. Our major fundraising activity is our Annual Fundraising Event, this year the Street Soccer Competition that you, as a team member, are participating in.

As only a small portion of target funds come from team entry fees, we are staging a pre-match day fundraising competition to help get us on our way. Our target is $30,000. Although, every dollar over will help us reach our goals faster!

The funds will go toward the planned installation of a sustainable solar power system ($6,000) and an extension of the existing ZimSEF Library to incorporate a community centre for our partners, the Young Achievement Sports for Development (YASD) program, in Harare ($12,000). As well as continue the funding of our Education Fund into 2015.

Also, to give you a bit of an idea of the kinds of things supporting the Education Fund goes toward each year for a primary aged student:

 

·         School fees for the school year ($US50/per child/per term)

·         Full school uniform ($US250)

·         Full set of stationary and text books ($US40)

·         Incidental costs such as excursions or medicine ($US5 - $US50)

·         Food for breakfast so they don’t go to school hungry ($US10/per month/per child)

·         Extra classes to catch kids up as many have been out of school for years, if they attended
          to begin with ($US1/per child/per class)

·         Mentoring provided by YASD (Priceless)

Most importantly, however, is the one thing that sets us apart from other child sponsorship programs - we take our kids all the way through senior school (year 12 equivalent). And not only that, but we send the seniors to boarding school (don’t think Cranbrook or Kings school now – nothing quite so flash!). This is critical to their getting the most out of their education. As by doing so, we are also alleviating the pressures of living in poverty and provide them with access to life’s basic necessities such as running water, electricity, and a bed.
