Story

This is a fundraising page to raise money for

The Newborn Care Centre at

The Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney.

‘One night to save a life’

Bubbles for Babies Ball 2011

On August 26th 2011 the nurses of the NCC will host a charity ball with the aim of raising $30,000 for the premature babies and sick newborns cared for at The Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney.  The unit has over 800 admissions a year, which caters for 42 babies at any one time.  Last year, the first Bubbles for Babies Ball raised $25.776, which helped buy a Giraffe Humidicrib.  This amazing incubator is ‘state of the art’.  The lid lifts up allowing more invasive work to take place. Currently the NCC has two of these incubators but would ideally like more as they are vital to the growing demands of neonatal care.

This champagne ball promises to be a fantastic evening, to be held at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf.  Tickets are $160pp, cost includes a wonderful three course dinner, drinks and dancing to live music.  There will also be  speeches from staff and ex-parents and a film showing our important life saving work. Prizes on the night include a holiday and business class tickets with Jetstar.  It is a great night where we can make a difference and celebrate the work we do at the same time.  Parents, staff and businesses can buy individual tickets or whole tables may be purchased.

This year’s face of Bubbles for Babies is Zeke who was born at 32 weeks.  He is now 18months old. With chronic lung disease  Zeke spent over a year in hospital but he is now at home walking, talking and eating normally. He is growing into a healthy young toddler.  None of this would have been possible without the dedicated work that takes place in the Newborn Care Centre, the specialist neonatal staff saved Zeke’s life at birth and as a premature baby helped him grow and become strong.  Zeke’s beautiful face can be seen on the posters invitations and all publicity advertising this 2011 event.

In the build up to the ball staff try to raise awareness of the event through media and small fundraising events with all monies made going towards the ball.  On May 15th one of the neonatal nurses involved in the ball ran the Sydney Half Marathon and raised $1,700. On this page you can donate and sponsor the Bubbles for Babies Running Team who will be attempting the City to Surf on 14th August.

The Bubbles for Babies Ball will soon be featured in The Daily Telegraph.
