Story
The fact you can not do anything to ‘fix’ your loved ones from Cancer is one of the many heartache moments a carer, friend, lover or acquaintance will feel. Let alone the realisation of the course that one goes through to fight for their life to enjoy all those simple things that we all take for granted each day.... just like taking a comfortable breath of fresh air.
Megan and the Dance Fit Team said farewell to their beautiful friend and inspiring leader who was taken at a young age from her diagnosis of cervical and lung cancer in 2014. After 5 years of fighting, their hearts were forever broken when Teena O’Keefe left her loved ones to become a shining bright star in the sky.
The Dance Fit Family will never forget her beaming smile and laughter that was infectious to all the had heard it. They all have their precious memories which will live with them forever and can never be replaced.
Recently (2 months ago) after 37 years of pure love and happiness Megan and her family discovered her Father (Tezza) was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer. With two of the closest people in her life that are fit, healthy, happy and selfless being dealt the same evil card of cancer is purely unfair and unjustified.
In 2012 Alex's son Lennox was born at 32 weeks gestation in Melbourne with a massive inoperable tumour, called a Haemangioma on his diaphragm. Although it wasn't Cancer, the diaphragmatic tumour was the first case in Australia and only the 3rd in the world. He needed chemotherapy and stayed at the Royal Children's Hospital intensive care unit for 3 1/2 months before coming home to Launceston's LGH. He was also one of the first pre term babies in Australia to under go chemo.
The toxic drug on it's own was a 50/50 chance of ending his life but he would not survive if the tumour was left. Despite the stress on such an immature, unwell, pre term baby's body and the many side effects, the chemo worked. He is now a happy healthy 6 year old who loves Megs dance class!
Therefore, Megan & Alex will shave her heads at the end of year Dance Fit Celebration Concert on Saturday November 24th 2018, with all money donated directly deposited to Cancer Council Tasmania.
Their hair is the least they can lose rather than a life of another loved one.
Please join the #CYC (Catch Ya Cancer) Campaign and donate to help them reach their goal.
