Taiji Through my Eyes.
Taiji Through my Eyes.
Story
Well, one year later and here I am again.
Firstly I would like to thank everyone who supported my trek to Mount Everest Base Camp last year.
I was so overwhelmed with the amount of people who donated and expressed their support in such a short time. I am very grateful!
The trek itself was very tough, however I breezed through it thanks to 4 months of hard training at @commit2bfit. If you missed the video, you can see it here:
This year I will be traveling to Taiji, Japan to personally witness the atmosphere and emotions of standing on the infamous 'Cove'. I feel personally obliged to make the effort out of respect to the voiceless, helpless dolphins that await their fate, just as their relatives have unfortunately discovered in the past.
It sounds horrible, I know, but im not going there to watch the slaughter. We all know what happens under the tarps. I want to try to capture and document the feeling of the atmosphere in the small fishing town and the emotions felt by myself and fellow activists that have also made the effort to the cove. After each day, I will be summing up the day in a video blog.
I have never done a 'Vlog' before but I thought it would be a great way for people to connect with me on a more personal level, especially for those who know me well.
This trip is not going to be easy. When it comes to animal welfare issues, I most definitely wear my heart on my sleeve. But thats what I want people to connect with. I wont hold back my emotions. This is my passion, therefore I want to pass that on.
Australia for Dolphins have also invited me to attend a court hearing in Taiji, relating to the albino dolphin "Angel" who was captured in one of the drive hunts in January 2014.
While Angel was being hauled away in a sling to the Taiji Whale Museum - the aquarium at the heart of the dolphin hunting trade - her family was brutally slaughtered and some suggest her mother even commited suicide after having her calf taken away.
I will be funding my own expences for this trip.
This page is simply dedicated to helping Australia for Dolphins continue their incredible efforts in not only Japan, but all over the world.
Please help me continue to help them.
Thank you,
Chanelle Ugle-Reid x
Action for Dolphins
The aim of Action for Dolphins is to protect dolphins and small whales who are killed inhumanely, and who presently have no international legal protection.
Dolphins are legally protected in Australian waters, but in Japan, Peru, the Solomon Islands and the Faroe Islands, dolphins and other small whales (such as porpoises and pilot whales) are hunted and killed to supply aquariums and for their meat. Over a million have been killed in hunts in the past 70 years in Japan alone.
Action for Dolphins is committed to taking action against dolphin cruelty, with a focus on legal action that can bring about real change to the thousands of dolphins currently being mistreated around the world.
Your support will help fund our vital work to protect these wonderful and intelligent animals.
