Trax for Gastro Tracts
Trax for Gastro Tracts
Story
"When your last chemo sends you to hospital with a morphine pump and the oncologist said its the worst case of hand foot syndrome he's ever seen; one of the rarest side effects from the drug is hair loss and decides to choose you as their vicitim you don't get sad you get TRAX" - Rosie, via Instagram.
Inspiring, courageous words from my cousin Rosie who is currently battling stomach cancer. I have been watching her fight a good fight and have been able to do very little to actually help her. She doesn't need money, she doesn't need help, she doesn't need anything but to have her family and friends standing by her side - which we do.
Most days it just doesn't feel like enough. In an attempt to make ourselves feel like we're standing by her a little bit closer, my family and I are all getting trax too. We're doing it to support her and to raise awareness for stomach cancer.
Did you know only 26% of people diagnosed with stomach cancer survive beyond the 5 year mark? Its a terrifying statistic, which is partially caused by the fact that the symptoms of stomach cancer are indistinguishable from other common gastro complaints in its early stages so isn't usually diagnosed until the cancer is much more advanced and therefore harder to treat. As a rare cancer more money and more reasearch can always be done in order to change these statistics.
Help us feel better about ourselves by donating money to the GI Cancer Institute. The money goes toward conducting drug trials for gastrointestinal cancers - real research on real drugs that gives hope to real people fighting right now - not in 20 years from now.
