Story
I'm making a difference and running for a cause that's close to my heart.
In 2007 I lost my eldest son Ryan to Asthma. He was an active 19yo who played soccer, worked fulltime, had a lovely girlfriend and lots of mates. He was gregarious and fun loving, he laughed easily and often.
On the night he became ill he told me that he had not taken his preventer for about 3 weeks, he just didn't get around to replacing it when it ran out. This decision probably cost Ryan his life.
The sad thing is, many asthmatics are complacent, they under estimate the importance of having and following their asthma management plan. Ryan had one in his wallet the night he had the respiratory arrest. He was in the emergency department of our local hospital and even they could not save his life. He died 3 weeks later from the hypoxic brain injury he sustained that night.
Needless to say, I have a strong motivation to support Asthma Australia. My local Gym, where I'm a member, are partnering with me this year - thanks Corefit Newcastle, and I am asking for your support to.
